This is your one-stop shop for everything you need to educate the public, the press, and decision makers on hunger and public policy in the West. On this site, you can find timely action alerts, background information, materials you can print out, and links.
Our 2006 priorities include the following:
- Continued work on the federal budget to insure that Congress does not make harmful changes in the federal budget to key safety net programs including Food Stamps, Child Nutrition Programs and Medicaid. In 2005, consistent advocacy and media connections resulted in no cuts to the Food Stamp Program. Vigilence must continue as Congress gears up for the FFY07 budget process. Our Federal Budget Action Center provides timely information and alerts, tools and Talking Points, and information on what advocates in the Western States are doing to educate their policy makers and the public.
- Development work on recommendations for the 2007 Farm Bill. USDA has already held multiple listening session in the west and throughout the country. WRAHC is developing draft recommendations to share with western and national advocates, experts and folks affected by food stamp policy. We'll be asking for your feedback this year. For more on Farm Bill 2007, see the Food Stamp Program page.
- WRAHC also monitors implementation of key pieces of federal legislation critical to insuring access to anti-hunger programs by hungry families in the West, includings the 2004 Child Nutrition Reauthorization Act and the 2002 Farm Bill.
